Ok so I'm a little late getting started on this... But when I finally sat down to do this assignment it took me forever just to come up with my own subcultures. I got to thinking and realized I had to ask myself questions like who am I, what have I been involved in, and where am I from?
Colorguard took up most of my time in highschool and I loved it! The dance mixed with the flag twirling was what I lived for. I couldn't get enough of it. You have to be dedicated and love those long, hot practices just like any other physical activity.
I am from Texas so I guess I could say I am a Texan. I have to admit that I love it there. I visit quite frequently. All the rolling hills are beautiful! And I'm sorry I have to say -Everything IS bigger in Texas. :) Of course I've only noticed it at restaurants. The sizes of the drinks and meals are enormous!
I am also an adoptee...I guess that's what you'd call me. I love meeting other people who were adopted and hearing their stories. I just recently met my biological family this past summer and love sharing the story. It was such a great experience!!! Well that's all the subcultures that I can think of for now. I'll try to add more later.

I honestly got sick of reading this "18 and 23" thing long before I read what it meant. I never understood the killing of Bascombe Wade twice. I do appreciate Naylor's style of writing. But is Naylor the narrorator? Maybe I missed that somewhere. I can undertand the story but it is a little harder being that that is not my style of writing. I also still don't understand the relationship between all of these character's...who was Reema and her boy related too? Are they all realted somehow on this island by just Sapphire and her dead husband....The narrator and Sapphire Wade had to interest me the most. The narrator has a sense of writing that was simple to follow and understand his/ her thoughts and feelings. Also, Sapphire Wade's name wasn't ever said in Willow Springs, but why? What was so special about her? The setting between Miss Abigail and Mama Days places triggered my imagination with the trailors, dogwoods, and moss.

There are so many groups out there that I would love to know more about. There is a group of people known as computer gamers (some people might think of them as computer nerds), but for now I will use gamers to be polite. I have a close friend in particular who is a gamer, so I decided to go to him for some guidance. The first words out of his mouth were, “you should come to a LAN party.” So I ended up going to a LAN party not knowing what in the world to expect. I didn’t and still don’t know what LAN stands for. When I got to this guy’s house, there were already a few people setting up their computers. About 10 to 15 guys showed up ranging in ages from 18 to 30. I have to say I was a bit nervous only knowing one guy there. Also, I was the only girl so I sort of stood out. I observed the guys setting up their computers. Everyone brought their own computer and monitor. There is no point in going to a LAN party if you don’t have a computer. Computer’s where set up throughout the entire house. Two or three to a room. There were lots of wires connecting each computer together that ran back to this one box thingy. I wondered what in the world that box was for. I later found out it was “a hub”…What’s a hub you might ask?…I’m still trying to figure that one out too. About 9 o’clock I think everyone was there, who was going to show up. Everyone gave two or three dollars to this guy. This guy who seemed to be the usual “food seeker” took everyone’s money and left. He returned after about half an hour with pizza and beer for all the guys. There were two games that they played the entire time. I think they were Counterstrike and Quake 3 or something like that. Everyone seemed to be so into the game. Once every few minutes a guy would yell at his monitor as if the game could actually hear him. Some seemed frustrated. I heard much foul language while I was there. It seems as though cursing helps them in the game. I stayed until about 11:30 and then left.

There are many groups that I am not apart of but would like to know more about. Eventhough I have been a "flag twirler" before, I would love to know more about the ECU Colorguard in particular. Another one would be the swim team. I probably could never make the swim team here at ECU but I would like to know some things about trying out and all that. How many laps can they swim without stopping and that kind of thing. Also, I would never involve myself in a sorority because of the time that has to be dedicated to it. However, I would like to know more about some Honor Sororities and what they do. I don't know of one in particular, I guess any Honor Soroity would be interesting to learn about. People who are involved in those sort of things seem to always be doing something. I just want to know how they fit everything in!?
